It is maintained by archeology dept. During war the bomb has been kept in church so it's one of the ancient/historical places to visit. As it is located in the fort, the whole area is called fort area. A garden with beautiful flowers are there in order to attract tourists. Some construction work is still going on in order to develop the garden.
The Church dedicated to BOM JESUS was completed in its present form in 1603 A.D. It served as the perish church of Daman during the early days of the Portuguese rule. The doorway with the elevated facade and richly decorated interior, lofty ceiling, carved and guilded alter embellished with statues of six saints attracts attention.
Very nice place to know about. Not sure if the Opening timings has changed or not after the Lockdown. As I have noticed visiting time is 6am to 8am, so plan accordingly otherwise you have to see the Church from outside
Church of Bom Jesus, as its name suggests, is dedicated to Bom Jesus. Its construction was started in 1559, and its consecration took place in 1603. It used to be a parish church during the early days of Portuguese settlement. The building is a living example of the superb architectural skills and exquisite craftsmanship of the Portuguese artisans and designers of those times. Its decorative and intricate design testifies to the matchless quality of Portuguese and Roman style of architecture. Some of the prominent features of the church include its gold painted wooden altar, artistically carved doorways, intricately designed rococo interiors, superbly bejewelled lofty ceilings and extravagantly styled work in rosewood.
Best Portuguese architectural church at Daman ! Excellent finishing and historical place to visit. Located in prominent Moti Daman fort area, it gives a glimpse into history and how it blends with the local customs. Good to visit during Christmas time (just before 25 Dec) to watch the processing.
