Two churches adjoining each other. Quite a complex. Nice piazza outside.

This sanctuary is a historical place of faith and charity. It is dedicated to a beloved Saint who is closely associated with families, mothers and children, especially when suffering from an illness. Innumerable families dedicate a picture or memento of a childbirth and ask for the Saint blessing: an entire room of the sanctuary is dedicated to this practice. Hospitality structures and restaurants surround the sanctuary and welcome the people visiting for more than a day.

This Sanctuary is co-located within the Basilica of Santa Maria Mater Domini. The huge parking space is a strong signal that many people flock to this place to honour St. Gerard Majella, the patron saint of expectant mothers, and ask for his prayers and intercessions. His tomb can be found in the older basilica, under the main altar. There is also a newer church built above. For those who want to attend weekday Mass, it is in a chapel within the new church. I enjoyed the \museum\ dedicated to him, where you can see his room and bed, and learn more about him through the items, art pieces and stories. What particularly touched me was the \Room of Bows\, where thousands of pilgrims come to place blue or pink bows as a sign of thanksgiving for the miracles received. This can be found at the ground floor. Of course, don't miss the breathtaking scenery surrounding his sanctuary. Try to go during the off season and you can have the whole place to yourself.

It is a wonderful experience to come to this place! Saint Gerald (Gerardo) is famous for protecting lives of the babies and pregnant mothers. He has made a lot of miracles since he was still alive. The santuary is surrounded by mountains and clouds. From this place we can look down towards the village where St Gerald was born and grown up.
