This observation platform has the potential for great views over Osaka city, but they have been almost totally crowded out on vegetation each time I have visited. Further, the (at least) four picnic tables there and on the way from the car park have all been destroyed, worth only stumps remaining. This despite the spot being an important archaeological site. In 1962-63, excavations at eight sites surrounding Katsuou-ji temple at the cardinal compass points discovered eight bronze Buddhist statues that had been buried in 1230. The statues and their containers have been designated National Important cultural Properties, and the sites themselves are National Designated Historic Sites. A stone marker behind the observation platform now shows the spot where one of these eight statues was excavated, although it, like the other seven monuments at the other seven sites, is not well-maintained: the sign has long rusted away, and the fencing has fallen over. The whole place is (as of March 2019) in dire need of renovation.
