Liduina of Schiedam was the saint of the chronic diseased. She is one of the best known Patron saints of The Netherlands. In 1890 Liduina was not canonized, but her centuries-old sanctity was recognized. She is celebrated on the 14th of june. The church doesn't have a long history. Compared to other churches it is quite modern. It was built in 1881 as the Saint John Church and only got its name after the demolition liduina church in the 60's. On June 18, 1990, the church was elevated to Basilica Minor by Pope John Paul II.

Church with a good structure. The location is very nice and this place can be seen from a distance because of its big structure. One can hear a hour bell ringing from here every hour. Popular with tourists and has a big open space in its front where carnivals are held occasionally.
