We stayed in the train carriage which is on the same grounds as the lodge. This was a fabulous experience. The train has been fitted out exquisitely in keeping with the old vintage style, the bed is large and comfortable, the shower had good pressure and the bath was big enough for two! There is an old record player with records of the era to provide even more ambiance. The lighting was original and functional. The breakfast was simple and self made but supplied. Susie was very accommodating, helpful, and friendly. Can’t fault it! Superb. Would have liked to stay another night!

We stayed at Te Anau Lodge for three nights in October and had a most wonderful, comfortable and restful stay. We looked out from our room and the lounge balcony over the lush grounds to the lake and mountains beyond - perfect for evening drinks in the golden sun. Suzy was so helpful and booked our excursions for us, recommending excellent local operators for our day trip to Milford Sound and sending us off with a fab cooked breakfast. We borrowed the lodge bikes and took a ride around the lake, visiting the bird sanctuary and other scenic spots. Te Anau and the Lodge was a real highlight of our trip - highly recommended.
One of our better stays. The old convent is quirky, fun, comfortable, relaxing, quiet and clean with plenty of room. The grounds show about 3 acres of interesting collections Mark, the owner, has placed around, including a train car, caravan and church, which house guests and employees. Guests may talk to Mark in German, French or English. He’s entertaining and loves people, having a great sense of humor, besides being a great source of information. My wife and thoroughly enjoyed him and his staff. If you must be near the lake, this is not the place. If you like unique, comfort and charm, this is the place.
Stayed here between Christmas & New Year - lovely heritage accommodation, loads of character, friendly staff, great food perfect for a relaxing stay - highly recommended
Te Anau Lodge is simply delightful. We spent two nights at the converted convent and highly recommend this accommodation. The lodge retains much of its former "convent" life from the room names - we stayed in "The Vestry", had breakfast in "The Refectory" and on a wet wintry afternoon, relaxed in "The Scriptorium", enjoying complimentary drinks lounging on the large leather couches. Excellent service in quiet and peaceful surroundings.
Te Anau Lodge is a very comfortable and cosy place to stay. The rooms have magnificent views over the snow capped mountains and lake. Beds are very comfortable and lounge and relaxing areas more than any traveller could ask for. Service was great, as was all the helpful hints of what you could do in the area.
Beautiful old Convent rehoused in such lovely grounds. Quirky and so interesting! The host Mark and his staff are brilliant and cannot do enough for you. Complimentary wine and beer in the library plus cake or coffee/tea is a wo wonderful way to finish off a busy day.
A wonderfully attended to B and B. The details make the difference: towel warmers and large towels, nice selection for breakfast, knowledgeable staff. The lodge is one of cleanest I have seen. My impression was that it catered to an older population but that could be simply the time we visited. It is outside of town and requires short car ride for dinner.
