アイヌの言葉で「ニ」は木「ポポ」は子供や人形と言う意味だそうで「ニポポ」は木の子供(人形)と言う意味になります。このお人形は網走刑務所の受刑者が一体一体を手作りで丁寧に彫り上げたもので網走を代表する民芸品です。この「槐(エンジュ)」の木で作られた民芸品ニポポと防波堤の長さ約260メートルを組み合わせて「ぽぽ260」と命名されたそうです。
