I take private lessons from Darren. I started pretty much from zero in hip hop dance and Darren has been an amazing and patient teacher. I feel like I’m improving every lesson and every practice. He is excellent and explaining and demonstrating things in different ways so it sticks. He also builds good fundamentals so you have a solid base for learning any style of hip hop dance. I highly recommend his lessons for any experience level!

Darren is very observant and quickly develops a general understanding of your skill level, comfort level with dancing, learning style/pace, etc. and customizes his instruction to best fit your needs. He has an uncanny ability to break down seemingly complex techniques to the very basics. My whole perspective and understanding of hip hop dancing has drastically changed and improved after only a handful of lessons. Darren is extremely knowledgeable and is truly gifted as a teacher. The pace and progression of his instruction is adaptive, methodical, and highly effective so you leave each lesson feeling like you’ve materially improved and are ready to further build off your progression. Perhaps most importantly for me, any feelings of apprehension or embarrassment go out the window. Darren has a way of quickly making you feel at ease stepping out of your comfort zone. He’ll explain the fundamentals behind each technique, demonstrate, practice with you, and provide helpful feedback. During my very first lesson, I quickly transitioned from feeling reserved to truly enjoying the process. I have a blast every lesson with Darren and get tremendous value from my time with him. This has been on my bucket list for a long time and I couldn’t be happier with my decision.
Let me just start by saying I am not a dancer but I have always had a passion for dance and loved to dance for fun. One day I decided I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and try something new and learn how to dance. That is how I found Darren Wong, I didn’t want to take a class cause I knew that I needed to start from square one and I didn’t want to embarrass myself. I loved that Darren offered all sorts for classes and also private lessons. Before anything he had asked me a few questions about my dance background so he knew exactly where the lessons would start and to get to know me. My first day I was so nervous I didn’t know what I was getting into but when I met Darren I instantly felt comfortable and I knew I was going to have so much fun. I loved that we started from the basics and he was so encouraging and at the end of each lesson he would always tell me to keep practicing at home and would show me what we were going to learn next lesson and it made me so pumped to come back. Darren was such an amazing, talented teacher and I am so thankful I got to learn from him, unfortunately he moved a little further away so I was unable to make it to the lessons. Even when I couldn’t go anymore I appreciated that he still wanted to help and push me to reach my goals and he offers so many more options like coming to where you live or Skype dance lessons. Darren thank you again for everything you are such an amazing teacher.
I have been working with Darren for about a year. It has been an outstanding experience. I had zero experience dancing and have learned so much from him. He is everything you could ever want in a dance teacher. Obviously he is an outstanding dancer, but the key is that he can break down/deconstruct the moves into smaller discrete steps for learning. Also he can watch me and home in on what exact part of the sequence I am having trouble with. Finally he always has a trick or a new way to look at a move to make it more understandable for me. In addition to all the above Darren has an enthusiastic, fun personality. He is timely and responsible. The lesson time is used in an efficient manner. He is flexible and understanding. I really can’t imagine a better teacher. I am lucky to have found him!
Darren is the man! I’m slowly getting out of my comfort zone and being able to dance when I go out with friends thanks to him. Our private lessons are really paying off and I’am really grateful to have him as an awesome teacher. If you are looking to learn a thing or two about dancing he’s the man to go to most definitely.
Darren has been teaching my son and he loves it. He is patient, which you need tons of to work with my son, and he’s really talented and knows how to bring his student’s talents out as well. Thank you, Darren for being so awesome!!!
