The girl who did my taxes is worth 5 stars for being very professional! Jackson hewitt originally wanted 600 for a simple return? Are you series?? By simple return I mean one W2 and one 1099G (unemployment). I ended up paying 458.95 but that's still crazy. I used HR block up until last year and the most I've ever paid was 275 and that was always close to a 4000 return. This year Jackson hewitt got more than a 1/3 of my refund. So much for my EITC. Last year I started using hr blocks free software. Tried that this year but hr block wanted 70 plus my refund amount seemed too low. I figured if I'm going to pay I'll pay someone to make sure i get as much as I can get. Looking up jackson hewitt prices online it didn't seem expensive, but I also didn't read the fine print. Jackson hewitt came up with the exact same refund I got using the software. After getting home that day I got an email from nys telling me of the free tax software available online for anyone who made less than 72,000 in 2020. If I would've got that email just a little bit sooner...
