Used to live in Glasgow in the early 1960s, just off Byres Road opposite the Hillhead Underground station, where the family maintained a boarding-house. We catered mostly to theatricals, at a time when Glasgow had a vibrant theatre line-up of top-class shows. At one time the Eric Delaney Band were in town and their trumpet-player Tony Fisher boarded with us during that engagement. Tony became aware that we were in the habit of cycling out to Balloch on the edge of Loch Lomond some Sundays, which was a trip that covered circa 20 miles, that took us about 2 hours on the bike. We used to cycle to Balloch and just mooch around the Pier watching folks loading and unloading from the Loch Lomond cruises, have an ice-cream and a Vimto and then cycle back home again. On a particular sunny Sunday, Tony Fisher had arranged to borrow the Eric Delaney Band equipment-van and we all crammed into the back of it to drive out to Loch Lomond. Tony had a few band-mates along with him one of whom was their young female singer Elaine Bookbinder who later went on to have a significant singing career as . . . Elkie Brooks.!
Cute view of the boats used for trips and plenty of parking.
