The JCR Community The JCR Community is a community interest company dedicated to providing training and employment opportunities for UK based veterans and their families. Our company was founded to help support ex-service personnel as they transition to civilian life. Our people are drawn from all sectors of society. We have very different religious, political and social backgrounds. Some of us are pacifists. Some aren’t. However, we all share one thing – we want to say thank you. Thank you to those who have dedicated their adult lives to protecting others. It is our turn to give something back. What we offer It is difficult for all of us to adapt to changes in our lives. Everyday challenges such as relationship issues, teenage growing pains, house-moves and job changes are known to trigger stress and anxiety in all families. When combined with additional factors such as those suffered by our veterans these can seem overwhelming at times. We offer structured, educational based, programmes which provide a safe space for groups of individuals and/or families to work together to address such challenges at an early stage – before they become problems. Our programmes are designed to complement the services offered by other veteran support agencies. The JCR Community School Pilot We are proposing to pilot a new family-based Community School in autumn 2019 and are seeking established service providers to partner with us to develop this. The first cohort will consist of 4 families (up to 20 individuals) with at least one parent who is a recent veteran. There is no limit to the number of children who can attend from any one family although they should be of school age. The programme will consist of activity-based training covering topics as diverse as understanding personal health and well-being, cooking for pleasure, everyday maths and story-telling.
