Knowledgeable, polite, and an incredible typewriter repair man/supplier! If you have a minute, at least pop in to have a look; it's a one of a kind shop. He's also in need of help, as his business may need to move soon. Head over as soon as you can before this shop goes away.

I went into Amherst Typewriter to have a sentimental old typewriter refurbished for a friend. I paid the 39 diagnostic fee and was told I would be called with an estimate. After a month I had not heard anything, I called to inquire, and was informed that my typewriters was the first one in fifty years of typewriter repair that had been lost. I gave the proprietor the receipt number and sent a photograph of the machine and described the case, which was clearly labelled with a name. After several phone calls, I was told that it had been located, had been in storage, and would cost an estimated 600 to fix, of which a 400 deposit would be required. I opted to get a second opinion and went to the store to pick up my property. I produced a receipt and was offered the wrong typewriter! After being accused of having sent a photo of a different typewriter, of having sent someone else to pick it up, and of trying to con them (though I am not certain of what, since had already paid the diagnostic fee and MY stuff was missing), I insisted on looking around the store. I located my typewriter and was given nothing but excuses for the treatment I had received. Since no one there knew which typewriter was mine, I have doubts that the 600 estimate was anything more than a wild guess. What a shameful way to conduct business! It was a frustrating and disappointing experience. Addendum 8/7. Estimate for refurbishing the typewriter from another repair shop is under 100. These people are scammers. Beware!

Excellent aficionado/craftsman with all kinds of rare finds, functional & beautiful machines. He's knowledgeable, passionate, ingratiating, and well-respected in the Pioneer Valley. Wish I was flush so I could buy everything in the shop.

My daughter is 13 years old. She walked into this store with her allowance money, 80 bugs. The guy said it was enough for buying an old typewriter. When she handed over the money, he said the typewriter was actually 200, and that he was going to take her money as a down payment. She came home and told me what had happened. I went to the store and asked for her money back. The guy said he was willing to give me 40 back. I refused and he became aggressive. I left. He scammed a young girl.
