Visit September 2020. After the archeological site. Big building. Bright, clean, roomy. Staff friendly and helpful. Big hallways. Big rooms. Lots on display. Signs in English n Greek.

Extraordinary museum with artifacts from the history of Macedonians as tribe and as state. From 6500 BC until the descendanys of Alexander the Great.

What a fabulous museum! We went to the Archaeological site first, which I think is the recommended order to visit. I have to admit I am not normally interested in coins/pottery/jewellery when visiting museums but I found the artifacts at this museum just fascinating. I think because they were excavated from the site we had seen, it was all in context. The exhibits are beautifully presented and clearly documented. The staff are very helpful and friendly and answered all our questions. We visited in the evening and had to go back the following morning as we hadn't seen everything. The temporary exhibitions were also excellent. We probably spent 3.5 hours in total in the museum and 1.5 hours at the site. Can also recommend the ice cream at the cafe!! Highly recommended, great experience.

I visited this amazing museum for the first time back in 2003 and got to admit that it still remains one of the most beautiful, not just for the place but also the richness of the collection - pure expression of the power and wealth that flowed in from Alexander's conquests.

The museum itself is great, but as a souvenir lover i am pretty disappointed with the souvenir shops.

Was very interesting, it's a good size museum considering the location, there is parking, a cafe and a museum shop.
