It is a museum in need of a make-over. The finds are very exciting, after all from the first ancient Greek (Euboian) colony in Italy from the beginning at the 8th century B.C. \Nestor's cup\ with an early Greek inscription is here, but exhibited so you cannot see the inscription. However, I like that the exhibition goes from the earliest funds and up, and also includes geology - an important part of the island.

Lovely little museum with ancient greek pottery and sculptures, including the Cup of Nestor which dates from around 750 BC and has one of the earliest examples of writing using the greek alphabet. The museum is a former villa which has gorgeous views of the sea, mountains and town.

Ischia riesce sempre a sorprendermi, ogni volta che ci vado scopro cose nuove, così come questo museo. Al suo interno vi è davvero una grande ricchezza archeologica. Eppure scopri che proprio ad Ischia è iniziata la prima fase della colonizzazione greca d’Italia! Consiglio di visitarlo. Belli anche i giardini esterni.

Un museo con piccoli, ma splendidi reperti. Arrivando a Casamicciola ad Ischia, con una breve passeggiata di mezzora si raggiunge Lacco Ameno dove, tra le altre cose, c'è questo piccolo gioiello di storia e archeologia. Una serie di bacheche, partendo dal periodo preistorico, passando per il periodo greco e fino ai romani, racconta la storia dell'Isola, i ritrovamenti, gli usi e i costumi. Salvatore, un ragazzo del luogo mi ha accompagnato in questo giro e mi ha fornito un sacco di informazioni, una guida improvvisata, ma davvero preparata. La gente del posto è cordialissima. Anche l'addetto alla biglietteria si è prestato per trovarmi un posto dove andare a mangiare. E' febbraio e ancora molti ristoranti sono chiusi. Appena fuori dal museo una spettacolare terrazza dove si vorrebbe stare fino alla fine del mondo. Si respira l'aria del mare, il sole, la libertà. Un luogo davvero magico e dopo essere stati qui si capisce perché chi viene ad Ischia poi ci ritorna.

Non ci si aspetta una rale ricchezza di materiali , a riprova di una storia antichissima, non da tutti conosciuta o semplicemente immaginata. La coppa di Nestore nella sua unicità è il giusto fulcro della raccolta . Ma che dire delle trottole, degli unguentari, delle testimonianze del culto delle ninfe Nitrodi ? Il tutto in una location da sogno da vivere, gustare, scoprire in ogni suo angolo.....
