I have sincerely enjoyed my time at Arizona Budokan. As a Karate' student in Isshin-ryu since 1986, I appreciate martial arts as a whole and I've had a LOT of exposure to various styles and their techniques through my natural curiosity and love of self-defense. Arizona Budokan (AZB) is NOT a McDojo or high-energy gymnasium wrapped in the dressings of Karate'. The school offers 4 unique tracks in Karate', Kobudo, Japanese Swordsmanship, and Aikido. There is literally an entire lifetime of study offered here! I joined AZB to polish my Kobudo skills and have been able to do just that as well as make improvements in areas where I had developed some poor habits. AZB's Sensei, teachers and students have all been very helpful in ensuring that I completed a technique correctly, understood the purpose of each technique, and made sure that I was always working on something relevant to what I needed to advance in my training. Even though I was already familiar with the Bo, Sai and Tonfa, I always left a Saturday class feeling like I had been challenged to improve familiar Kobudo techniques and learned a few new things as well. Everyone is respectful of each other and they are careful to not injure their training partner, but they also will be sure to challenge you so you can realistically defend yourself on the street. Everything is authentic and top-notch and I would highly recommend it to anyone because it is a serious, traditional dojo with an impressive multidisciplinary curriculum.
