Worst place to rent a car. Took me one hour till I got the car. They seem to type in again all the online information into a super old system. There is not enough staff. When i finally was done with all the paperwork my car wasn't ready and I had to wait again. Car said it had needed service since a couple of days. Even returning the key took forever.

Last Wednesday I hired a car online with Avis to collect from Lanzarote Airport, for 1 day hire. I added the extra insurance at a price of 24, on top of the 39 car rental. The car was supposed to be picked up at 8.30am on Saturday morning but there were 2 people in front of me and apparently due to technical problems we were not tended to until 9.30am, losing 1 hour out of our days itinerary. I understand it was not the girls fault who attended us and she was very apologetic and friendly, although under a lot of stress. The car was very comfortable, excellent condition and a full tank of fuel. We returned the car half an hour earlier than the expected time and with a full tank of fuel. One week later 58 euros has been taken from my card. Avis have not replied to my email and in a phone conversation I was told it was because the extra insurance was not added on my online booking, even though I have emails of confirmation and had the money taken from my account. Eventually I was told I would get a refund of the 58 euros in around 10 days time. I have never experienced anything like this in all the times I have hired cars whilst on holiday and I stated that no payment should be made with my card without authorisation, especially 5 days after the car was returned. I recorded the phone conversation and took note of the persons name who attended the phone call incase the money is not refunded to my account

No better than the crooks that are Goldcar, the price quoted does not include a no choice19 euro "fuel filling charge" which is what? It has a full to full policy so the previous renter fills the car and you return it full, so how can they charge you 19 euros it's a scam and for a big company like Avis/Budget, they should be ashamed, i used Sixt last time I suggest you do the same!! Since I wrote this review Ireceived my Final invoice from Avis/Budget booking through "DO You Spain" the price was euro 69.80 the final invoice was euro 99.00, which included the euro 19 extra fuel filing charge and a an extra euro 11.20 for bringing the car back not full, when actually I filled the car up 3kms on return to the airport, this cost was added at a guess as I argued with the Avis (gangster/employee) about the euro 19 extra, she obviously added everything she could on fuel she could as I had only clocked up 100 kilometres while i was there, a call to customer service said I need to produce the receipt, which I cant find, but have the transaction on my credit card statement. which I'm not sure will stand. Use Sixt or Autoreisen who don't add spurious extras to their prices.

For such a big brand, one staff and small counter. We waited 1 1/2 hrs to collect a car! Shameful for such a big brand with big queues

Waited an hour and only 3 people in front of us. The car I ordered an paid for was not available. Had to pay extra for an upgrade that I did not want. Staff tried to scam us into paying for extra insurance again we had already paid for insurance. Took plenty pictures of the car to show any existing damage as I don't trust these gangsters to try and charge me for pre existing damage. Do not hire a car from Avis, they are only interested in stealing your hard earned money and have no interest in customer service. Dropping the car back tomorrow and will be documenting everything that happens as I'm sure they will be trying to steal more money from us by using their shady underhand tactics.

We are currently renting one of their C1 cars. The motor lamp was already blinking after a few kilometers. After we were stranded at the far north of the island we urgently needed assistance and tried calling multiple times. Nobody picked up the phone, even after dialing all numbers given to us by different Avis stations in Europe. Very disappointing experience. Don’t ever rent here.

Don't rent a car from this company. We videoed the car on collection (damage pointed out). We had a great holiday and dropped car back - videoed to show no additional damage. On return the charge my card within 1 day (not the 10 days by law timescale) for 650 for damage! There was NO damage. They have NOT once replied with any evidence by photo or video of this new damage....fortunately I took out my own damage insurance in UK (I did not use Avis's own damage insurance as it was overpriced) so I got all of my money refunded bar an additional days rental that they also charged. AVIS claimed we dropped our car back after 3pm whereas in fact it was dropped at 9.10am as our flight was 10.30am. Appalling company with even worse customer service.
