Stayed here and found 'monks' disingenuous but one Italian Lay person in white. The Visiting ajahn especially who when a friend had to leave early on the last day due to infection from the waste system backing up he spoke ill of, mocked. This occurred early on when a man left because of others Snoring in the dorm. In all my years of Buddhism I have never experienced Buddhism that questions one's Buddhist faith like this place did! It was very saddening indeed and cruel! Its a 'forest community' but not in a forest with neighbours feet from the place across a lane who reportedly like the community around them do not like them. This says everything. If you wish for real Buddhists not Extremist white man Buddhism, go to Thailand and Love the Faith and Love for Buddhism and the True Honest Buddhist people who actually act like the Buddha.

I am a Buddhist and well traveled around East Asia and the Buddhist communities. From Chiang Mai to Hong Kong etc. I have seen many varied Buddhist Monk communities and stayed with many true Theravada communities wealthy and poor, Rice farmers to cities etc. Our Friend stayed here a true noble Theravada monk and was treated quite badly by this 'community'. Deep Respect for Ajahn Chah. 1. They preferred Americans, it appeared they paid more than the customary 15 a night expected at this place. 2. The belief that other Buddhist communities other than the 'forest community' are \Fat!\. It was stated. 3. The Extreme behavior of a white clothed lay male person trying to snatch away a leaving visitors brown hat, because he was offended my this apparel. Very Threatening indeed. 4. When visitors left early excuses by the Ajahn given was different to why they left, changing the story to belittle the visitor leaving. 5. The seemingly cruel promotion of visiting group cohesion through scapecoating, especially those who felt impressed to leave. 6. The promotion of what is easily perceived as unwelcoming behavior only open and welcoming to more wealthy middle class person who are prepared to pay more than most working class persons can afford to pay. 7. It is interesting that the locals and those at the Local store said \The Local community doesn't like them!\ and \They wish they were gone!\ I have never heard that in all the Foreign retreats I have stayed at before. Considering the neighbors are feet from the building literally next door that says a lot. Very Disheartening. If you wish for your Buddhist beliefs to be tested and even harmed you may wish to attend elsewhere. I would rather be \Fat\ than Disliked and found unwelcome.
