This place didn't blow me away. Especially not with cost taken into account. I loved the ambience and the service. The decor was fun and made for an enjoyable experience. However the food just didn't love up. The sashimi and the grilled fish was bland. The ikura don was good and I'd love to get that and some uni again. Overall, I'd probably swing by furarito instead to try out an assortment of izakayas.

Super nice izakaya with variety of sake and fresh seafoods.
Authentic Japanese Dinner, old fashioned way! My family of 5 got a private room, perhaps I made the booking few days before coming with remarks of tourist. Salmon Roe, Uni are super fresh. I ordered a shell fish sashimi, and it is v tasty. Grilled fish is nice too.

The Oofune Izakaya is truly a special place. It's got an atmosphere that really shows the history of the place, from celebrity signatures from the 1940s to Koshien flags of nearby high schools hanging on the walls. The food itself is superb as well, and I absolutely recommend the "urine". (Tastes like potatoes!) The 80s Pop/J-Pop playlist playing in the background is awesome as well. All in all, the izakaya really is, as the Japanese review underneath mine says, "Asahikawa's Treasure".
