Really nice place to drive around, during any season, but especially in spring or late autumn. You can see some cows and horses grazing around. If you're lucky you might see some people driving peculiar motorcycles. Most people come to visit the volcano, but I'll definitely recommend staying to look around the national park area as well.

This is my favorite national park. All the volcanos are amazing, the view is extraordinary. Since Mt. Aso had a level 2 eruption so we couldn’t climb the top but we did climb the other volcano a bit. It’s amazing how big the crater is and Mt. Aso venting. If your a tourist and your coming to Kumamoto this is a must-go place.

Place is closed due to volcanic gas but we climb up a low peak for a great view of the area.

When we visited Aso-Kuju National Park, we enjoyed running on the huge grassy caldera of the (hopefully) extinct volcano. While it was dormant at the time, more recently is has been active and therefore what we did may no longer be permitted out of safety concerns.
