My husband and I went to Hook & Reel on a Saturday night around 5pm. We were seated and served immediately. We don’t usually eat dinner that early, but every time we’ve driven by, their parking lot has been super full, with a wait. Coming earlier than the rush was a good plan for us. We were given shrimp chips as an appetizer, which I thought was neat. They didn’t taste as fishy as I’m used to, but had a nice crunch to them. My kids weren’t with us, but they would have appreciated the paper on the table with activities, like mazes and coloring. My husband and I got the snow crab legs and shrimp, no head, as well as extra corn. We got mild special blend, which was flavorful and not spicy at all. The crab legs were so, so good. I’m glad they give gloves and a bib because it can get really messy, but it’s worth it. I can’t wait to go back again.

Visited for the first time recently. Distancing between tables was good and employees wore masks. The food was average. I got crab bites for an appetizer, lobster bisque and a fried oyster basket. Portions were generous but the food was generally bland. The lobster bisque was pasty with no discernible bits of lobster. The oysters needed copious amount of cocktail sauce to give them flavor. I thought it was generally over priced for the quality. Many better seafood options exist in Athens in my opinion.
I was a server (now former employee) at the new location of Hook and Reel in Westminster, Colorado. We had the General Manager, Jimmy from the Athens, Georgia location here for almost 2 weeks for the grand opening of the store. From the minute orientation started with a brand new set of employees, through the first busy weekend of the restaurant, and until the bittersweet goodbye, Jimmy was there for us. He showed wonderful leadership, guidance, and integrity. He was very knowledgeable, focused, organized, honest, commutative, and confident in his job. He was energetic and fun and made the store opening both memorable and motivating. Having him at the store opening was extremely helpful and beneficial. He will be missed. For the Athens, GA store and guests you have an amazing general manager there. He truly cares about the company, employees, and the guests. Thank you Jimmy for everything! :)
Due to previous reviews, some good, some bad, we were a little apprehensive about eating here, but decided to try it to form our own opinion. The food was great. We each ordered a basket, one oysters, one shrimp and both had the lobster bisque as an appetizer. All were really good, and plentiful. The shrimp were large and the oysters were nice and juicy, not overcooked as can often be the case. One reason for 4 stars instead of 5 was the lack of salt on the fried food, including the fries, which gave it bit of a bland taste. Not a major concern, but not typical of other restaurants I have eaten at. The service was friendly and except for a slight lack of attention toward the end of the meal, was good. Our server was also attending bar at the time which may have played a part. We will definitely eat here again.
There are so many wonderful restaurants in Athens. If you want excellent Cajun food, this is the place to go! We’ve tried several Cajun restaurants in the area and this is by far our favorite! Travis was an exceptional server. He was very well informed about the menu, and he took very good care of us. We are definitely NOT disappointed by Hook & Reel!
First time going but food and place was better than I expected. I thought it was going to be a carry out, small feel place. When it is a full size restaurant boasting almost a Louisiana type ambiance but a family restaurant with full eat in bar and tables. They also have a separate order/pick up station. Pricing: Not the best selection of music choice to me, but decorations were "old school" memory to me. Bibs, paper table cover, and crab discard bucket
Food has been good everytime we have gone there. A bit over cooked but tasty. The last time we dined there we were a bit shocked at how filthy dirty it has become. The windows are smokey, smeary dirty on the inside. The wall in our booth was splattered with butter and seafood chunks from previous diners.. Yucky ! Probably not going back.
Food was so good!! Chris attended to us and he was the best! Had a really good time, would definitely be going back
