The rating you can see must be based on previous reviews. We used to eat at the horse and jockey many times under the old management, the food was simply amazing, fresh, classy and tasted superb. But since then new people are running it. Drinks are OK, but it's hard to go wrong here, but the food is awful. We have just eaten there. I had a BLT on a rustic baguette, laughable. The bacon was cold, the salad was limp but the worst of it was that it was served in a part baked baguette, like you buy at the supermarket. The thing is that you're meant to bake them for another 10 minutes...this wasn't, shocking. Staff are friendly but I'm not sure they understand what cooked food means. By all means go for a drink, it's still a nice pub albeit no atmosphere anymore, but save your money and eat somewhere else. Terrible. Response to owners response. I'm sure the one table you had in may have liked the food but I guess only having one table in says it all. As for freshly cooked food, what I was served was not a freshly cooked baguette, unless you mean it was half freshly cooked but it wasn't, it was stone cold...like when you take it out of the plastic packaging from aldi! It was a part baked baguette, bought in but forgotten to bake before serving. Honestly, just admit it was a bad day in the kitchen.

This pub serves the perfect pint of Bass, the food is excellent and it's a nice building with a nice beer garden. The service today and two weeks ago today was awful on both occasions. Both times the WiFi was down, so no card payments and even though a table was booked in advance they didn't call to advise we'd need to bring cash. The waiting staff all seem very dim, forgetful and not that bothered. The time between courses was really poor and it took ages to manually work out the bill. Sort the service out and this pub is 5 stars

Thought the meal (steak) although 19 was more like a 10 to 12 meal. Lacked the trimmings of tomato and mushroom etc or salad garnish. just came with 2 onion rings and a few chips. Not very hot either. Steak was quite good though.
