Today the sun shone and this terrace was the perfect place to hang. They do (perfect for drivers) an 18ml glasses of beer (& bigger ones too). We did a tour of the abbey and the brewery. The abbey has an fairly interesting but not extraordinary, history and the walk through the buildings was enlivened by a group of very irreverent, slightly tipsy, young Dutch men. The brewery is brand new and totally uninteresting be unless you know nothing about brewing. BUT it's more than worth the cost for the two beer samples and cheese! Our tour guide was excellent. She asked questions, was very knowledgeable, friendly, super helpful and flexible. Everything is in 4 languages (Dutch, English, French, German) except the children's interactive tour game - no English. A fun and pleasant, if not exceptional day out. A word to the wise, the cheese in the shop is available from the local supermarkets (the small packets for less than half the price!) but not all the beers and the liqueur is hard to find elsewhere.

Great place to visit during the summer, really good beer and cheese.

We had a large portion of penne au gratin for 10 euro with a glass of light beer. Everything was very tasty and the food was brought to us quickly. Both the beer and food are prepared by the abbey monks. The only inconvenience is that you have to queue to order and get your drinks.

Amazing! I took the pennes gratinés façon Val Dieu and I do not regret it. It was so good. And it goes perfectly with a local beer brewed by the monks. Only the waiting lines are to be changed as many people took over.
