The shot tower isn’t much to see. But the park itself is great.

Beautiful area to stop! We didn’t get to do the trail but they have one and it goes for miles. Pretty sure you can bike on it too. Boys loved to run and play in the field & perfect place for a picnic with clean Restrooms. We were recently here and everything was open.

A great place to stop if you're looking to ride the New River Trail. There's always been plenty of parking every time I've gone, and the parking fee is only 5. It's a simple walk down to the trail, and from there you have many, many miles you can go in either direction. And the New River Trail is a delightful ride - I try to get there at least once a year for a ride.

It's was a pretty cool experience. The tower was very cool and the story behind it was very cool.

What a beautiful place to stop and enjoy the day. Incredible history with the shot tower. The only disappointment was that visitors are unable to go into the tower. But that will not stop me from going back.

The tower, history and the view are pretty much the most interesting part of this area of the park. The view of the river is often obstructed by trees. I visited today, mid-January, and because the leaves on the trees had fallen, I got to see the river clearly. I started hiking the trail even though it was freezing cold today. I like the short trail behind the tower which consists of dirt, pavement, tree roots and steps. Hiking back up to the tower can be a challenge for some because you will be hiking up slope. The main New River trail along the river isn't that exciting. I guess mainly it is because the trail is covered with small gravel. I prefer a natural looking trail with dirt and mulch. The trail is probably much prettier and nicer to hike during Spring thru Fall, but you might not get to see much of the trail. It costs 7 to park for a regular car. It is pretty much on a honor system. Envelopes are provided, which are located behind the little metal door to the left of the slot where the payment is to be inserted. There are 2 picnic tables with BBQ grill each, and a trash can. The restrooms are in a small building near the picnic tables.

Nice little stop on the historical routes of VA.
