This is a ruined castle that once belonged to the Kennedy family, the Earls of Cassilis. The castle has lots of history associated with the Scottish Kings and Queens including James I and Mary, Queen of Scots. Today, the castle sits on a rocky promontory of the Ayrshire coast, with great views of the Firth of Clyde or a wide view to keep watch over the seas. Not much of the castle is left, but it does look stunning standing precariously on the rocky edge.

A real treat. Picturesque castle ruins on a beautiful rugged coast. Small carpark near by (2.50 per car all day.) Small play park close by. There is a walk down to a harbor, also very beautiful, which has a small shop. For buggies there are a few steps on the walk. The castle you can get into a few areas, it's not massive however. There are also some walks down to the coast from the cliff. Be careful if you have kids, there are some very large drops in places.
Parking was a tad difficult to figure out but once we did we walked a ways back down the road to the ruins and had a great time.
Great location for photographers Lovely long beach Rocky outcrops, visit at or near the high tide for the small rocky outcrops and low tide for the castle
Lovely views, free to see just pay parking. Right next to a kids play park and nice sea view walks.
