Good for kids
A wonderful little treasure of history we stumbled across while out for a drive. The volunteers are wonderful; friendly and knowledgeable. The tour could be five minutes or thirty minutes depending on your time, interest level, and (I assume) the time of the volunteers. We were there about 30 minutes, but easily could have stayed to chat for another hour if we had the time. Cost is by donation. Though we were there in the off season (they are open in the winter) so I am uncertain if that applies in the summer as well, though I suspect so. Just a heads up, depending on the direction you approach the area, the road can be very narrow in a few places. Across from the \Tavern\ is a state park entrance. The park borders a river, with what look to be beautiful wooded hiking trails, and even in winter we caught glimpses of people fishing in the river.
