It is a mock castle at the edge of the Golf Course with stunning views of Bath. Sham Castle was built in 1762 for Ralph Allen, one of the key figures responsible for Bath’s Georgian revival. Was it built to improve the view from his home in the city (near to the Abbey) or to show off the quality of the stone from his quarries in Combe Down? No one knows for sure.

Not a castle but actually a folly. This purposeless ruin is set at the foot of a golf course and cut all intents and purposes (or lack thereof) looks great! Looking away from the folly itself you will enjoys stunning views of Bath!
Lovely spot at the foot of a Golf Course and the top of the City Walks. Great views over Bath on a good day and certainly worth the extra stop off on the National Trust Bath Skyline Walk. Highly recommended.
Lovely view of the city from the castle. Nice walk very muddy as it had rained. castle not much to look at.
Best views of Bath! Just make sure you're wearing the right shoes-- its very muddy
