MaktabaTech was founded by four women with an engineering and design background as part of the MIT Media Lab Refugee Learning Accelerator program. Eager to make a change and deliver a message that believes in the power of reading and language learning in bridging culture and elevating young minds, the project soon grew to become a start-up targeting all children, and not just refugee learners. At MaktabaTech, we aim to implement recent technologies to complement the traditional hard-copy books and make reading fun again. Our Android application uses Augmented Reality to display educational content in more than one language when overlaid with the different pages of the book. Our vision is for MaktabaTech to be in every home, and for the future generations to hold to the book reading values and bring them to balance with a fast-advancing technology-driven world. Our mission is to revolutionize the educational systems by bringing back the book reading thrill to our children through integrating innovative and accessible, easy-to-use technology tools.
