Very thoroughly renovated belfry. You can't walk the outside walls, but you can enjoy the view through big windows. Interesting explanation of the building of at the inside

I agree that it’s not very special, but the tower is beautiful, the parc is very nice and you have a nice view over the city. If you’re in Mons it’s definitely one of the places you must visit.

The building is amazing from the outside. Moreover, the park at the entrance offers nice vistas. Yet, you may not need to pay for it! Visiting the inside part of it is useless and expensive (a flabbergasting 9 - as much as the best museums and monuments in Antwerpen or Ghent): the view is not that interesting and you have to stand behind a dirty glass (by the time we visited). As for the bells, you'd rather stay outside and listen, since you can't see much of it from the tour.

One of the 33 UNESCO inscribed belfries of Flanders and Wallonia, the Belfry of Mons. Unlike many of the other belfries, this one is located outside the very centre of the historic centre, as it’s located in the gardens of the former Counts of Hainaut, but still walkable to the Grand Place. The visit starts with an elevator ride to the fifth floor where you all round views of Mons. The views are only from the inside of the Belfry though, and there's no way to step outside to get views. IIRC, another floor up and you get to see the magnificent original mechanical clock (no longer in operation). Then there's a climb up another floor to see the carillon. The carillon and upper floor is cordoned off with a glass wall, but you can still see much of it. The tour of the Belfry continues with the walk down the floors where there's various mini exhibitions of science and weather. Not much to see in the exhibits, but each floor has some information about the belfry and you do get to see the difference between the interior and exterior of the building. Inside, it's much less decorative and you can see the building is largely built from bricks, which was interesting. The exterior is a beautiful baroque. I especially like the roof, which is topped with orb like crowns, which of which is also topped with golden weathervanes. The visit would probably take no more than 30 minutes, but it does mean you hear the bell chiming at least once as they do so every 15 minutes.

Mons is the storybook European town you would expect to see in a movie. The Belfry is a world heritage site and looks like it was built for that movie. It's chimes every 15 minutes creates the quintessential soundtrack to your visit. At the top of the Mon, it's visible from most of town. A meticulous restoration inside and out proves the locals are proud to have it. A small museum inside provides the best view of Mons as well as a close up of the bells.

Nothing special but what else you may visit in Mons? Nothing. Music from the tower is worth to listen to.
