Directorate for Inland Waterways (Plovput) is a body within the Serbian Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, responsible for maintenance and development of 963 km of international and interstate inland waterways in the Republic of Serbia (Danube, Sava, and Tisza Rivers). It was founded in 1963. Over the last half a century, it changed name for a few times, always keeping its’ core competences related to: hydrographic survey, fairway design, waterway marking, river training works, river information services and provision of information on conditions on inland waterways and inland navigation. Currently, it has 101 employees, constantly working on providing safe conditions for inland navigation. Plovput is active on the international level, participating in the work of relevant international organizations, such as the Danube Commission, the International Sava River Basin Commission, PIANC, UNECE working group for inland waterway transport, GIS Forum Danube. It has lively cooperation with Croatian and Romanian Danube waterway institutions, harmonizing activities on common stretches of the Danube River.
