Matt Hyman of Bend Pickin Parlor is a guitar instructor I've stuck with for three years. He's not only a skillful teacher but also a performer and a delightful person who instructs with a perfect balance of encouragement and challenge. Through my bi-weekly lessons with him, my own guitar skills have improved to the point I feel I'm actually playing music now, not just desperately banging away at the strings. I also think of him as a good friend.

Matt is the absolute best music teacher I have ever had! He is an incredible musician and an incredible teacher (a rare combination). Matt teaches you how to play music, as opposed to teaching you specific songs. After 2 years of his instruction, I can listen to a song, figure out the chords, figure out the melody and improvise a solo. If you want to take your music to the next level, he’s your guy!
I love my guitar lessons with Mathew! A great mix of discipline and jammin". He's an awesome player and has the knowledge of music theory that I think is how you get to the next level in your playing ability. Though I've been on a "life stuff got in my way" break, I am looking forward to getting back to the studio to continue my journey of making my guitar sing!
Matt made my first lesson so much fun! I had never played the ukulele before. He taught me a few simple notes and in the first few minutes we were playing together. That gave me confidence that I could do it! Highly recommend Matt as an instructor!

Matt is a consistently professional instructor and will help you succeed in a relaxed and friendly setting. Switch it up and try a couple of instruments! Don’t put it off, it’s never too late to expand your musical interest and this is the place that will do it.
I have been a student of Matt’s for 5 years or so. It has always been fun and interesting. I have a nice fat binder of songs I can play. I will be glad when we can get back to in person lessons. But Zoom has kept the ball rolling this past year. Matt is a knowledgable, patient, supportive teacher. I plan to keep up the twice a month lessons long term. Mike. (Pam is my wife)
I take banjo lessons and I love it. Matt is patient and encouraging. I have never played an instrument before let alone sing or read music. He is awesome now I just need to practice
