16th century fountain with colorful statue of a woman on top, pouring water into a bowl. Most likely symbolizes the primary value of moderation. Only later was the fountain attributed to Anna Seiler, that opened a hospital in Bern in 1354 .
Located very close to the Käfigturm, this fountain dates from the 16th century. The woman in the blue dress represents Anna Seiler. She asked the city in her will to help found a hospital. Nowadays (Anna Seiler died around 1360) the hospital exists as the Inselspital. It will take you about 10 minutes to reach this tower if you walk from the Main Train Station.
Amazing statue on a fountain from 16th century. Anna Seiler was a founder of a first medieval hospital. The water was amazing, you should try it.
