I was an employee there for three months. In just three months I saw growth with so many of those children. Saw some of them be discharged on positive behavior.

A good friend of mine had went there. He was there from October 16, 2017 to January 25, 2019. He had severe anger issues. When I first found that he had went here, I was upset. After he was discharged, he called me. He had told me on how great this place was. Sure, there was some bumps, he said but he had managed to turn from crazy to calm. Today, he has his moments, but amazingly, he uses coping skills to calm down. He said overall, the place was pretty good. He left me good advice from his experience which is think before you act. I'd like to thank them for helping out my buddy by making him stronger mentally. He doesnt feel like people have underestimated because of his mental health. Everyday, now he will tell the story on how went from an angered fiery guy into a fiery guy who thinks before he acts.
I have been working with the staff at Bernalillo Academy for a few months and they have been excellent to work with. The staff is very friendly and professional. They take great care of the children and make sure everyone's needs are met. I can't say enough great things about this academy!
The staff at Bernalillo Academy have been very helpful. From my experience they have been very professional and answered all my questions. I hope they have continued success in caring for the youth of the community.
This place is NOT adequate for children with attachment issues. If I could I’d give negative stars, they gave our child no true help with her reactive attachment disorder and in fact, they actually succeeded in making her worse. Absolutely no support from her staff for family relationships. If your kiddo isn’t autistic, run as fast as you can from this place!!
Our son's admission to Bernalillo Academy in Albuquerque, NM was the best thing that could have happened for him. I was hesitant at first, as it was an out of home and state placement. But, I had to be honest, our son could not stay at home without intensive treatment. Our son has a severe form of Autism and is nonverbal. He can be extremely aggressive and has limited coping skills. We admitted our son on September 1st, 2017. He was discharged on August 31st, 2018. During his stay, he received 1:1 support, behavioral therapy, education, and medical care. My son learned to use PECs cards to help him communicate and to give him signals in upcoming activities in his schedule. He also received feeding therapy which has encouraged his willingness to try new foods and expanded the variety of his preferred foods. He is much more calm. The staff was very communicative with me. They called every single time an incident occurred. I was also able to regularly speak to my son. The facility is beautiful, clean, and secure. Upon discharge, the staff had prepared a detailed sheet that provided information about his schedule and ways I can continue it at home. They also provided me with a PECs book, timer, and a token system reward board to use for reinforcement. They also provided me with some of his favorite snacks. I could tell that they genuinely cared for my son, from his 1:1 staff all the way up to the program and clinical directors. The entire staff is very involved and nothing short of amazing. I really can't put into words how impressed I am with their staff and facility. I am forever grateful for the work they did with and for my son and that they continue to provide excellent care to their patients.
I have been an RN for 30 plus years. This is by far an a way the worse place I had ever worked. Place is filthy, staff demoralized by mentally unstable upper management. Place run like prison for the workers. People fired on the spot for nothing. Value your nursing career and look elsewhere for a job this place will leave you mentally scared from their abuse.
