I called regarding newborn bunnies in my backyard because my hound dog killed the mother out of instinct. The person I spoke to on the hotline was rude and condescending. They told me there was no way that could have been the mother since it happened around 5pm and mothers don’t return to their nest until dusk. I asked if they could still take the babies since my dog disturbed the nest at the same time she killed the bunny, so we were pretty confident it was the mother, but they refused to take the babies. After barricading the nest from our dog and hoping the mom would indeed return as we were advised, the babies ended up dying after checking on them a few days later. If the person I talked to would have listened to the situation better and not been so overconfident that it wasn’t the mother that was killed, they could have picked up the babies and the babies could have lived.

Had the displeasure of speaking with a VERY RUDE woman over the phone. Made it seem like she could almost care less about a family of foxes(mom & 2 babies) who are in the middle of town. I understand that she said there isn’t much they can do, but don’t be so rude then hang up on a concerned citizen!!!! Not to mention that I wasn’t even able to get out my concern of them being next to a grade school that has a playground. What if a curious kid got a little too close to the babies and the mom became defensive, what then?!?!?! I’m sure they’ve done some amazing things to help others, but don’t make someones valid concern seem like a complete waste of time. The only waste of time was me making that phone call.
These people are great! I originally thought they were run by the state or conservation department, but they are ALL volunteers that donate their own time and money to help these animals. I have called them in regards to several issues myself, and they have always been so helpful. They are entirely donation based, so if you can give anything, please do. As a community, we need this service! 5 stars for Bi State!
They are life savers! I was referred to them by the Emergency Animal Hospital in Springfield, MO when I contacted them about a baby rabbit that had been attacked by a cat. I left a voicemail and received a call back in less than 15 minutes. They explained that a rehabilitation volunteer would be contacting me to pick up the rabbit, rehabilitate it, and release it when it's ready. In less than an hour from that phone call, the rehab volunteer was at my door. She was very nice and knowledgeable. I was so relieved to know that the bunny was in very good, capable hands. She explained that cat saliva has bacteria that is very bad for rabbits, so she would be giving the bunny antibiotics and lots of TLC. Though the wound to it's hip (about the size of a quarter, no hide left with muscle exposed) looked terrible to me, she said the bunny would likely be healed and ready for release in 2-2 1/2 weeks. Rabbits, she explained, are pretty quick healers. I'm so thankful to have found this service. I'm certain the bunny wouldn't have had a chance w/o them. I'm confident that it will be well cared for and released when it's healed. I highly recommend them and will be making a donation to support them. I couldn't be more impressed with their service and their website is very informative. They can address any question, issue, or problem involving ANY wild animal found in MO or IL.
My boyfriend had hit a fawn on the highway. It was late so he took it home and kept it in the garage. The next day I called. I met up with Amanda who took the deer. We asked if she would keep us informed. She said she would call but never did. I even tried to reach her by email but no response. I'm disappointed that we were told that but she didn't bother to follow up!
