My then 4 year old son was being treated for scoliosis by Dr. Michael Glotzbecker at Boston Children's Hospital - Orthopedics. Due to my sons age and nature of his curve the MD ordered a MRI to rule out certain neurological conditions (Chiari 1 Malformation, tethered spine, etc) and said the procedure was I would be contacted if an abnormality was detected. One full year later (after Glotzbecker left for Cleveland OH) my son's new physician reviewed his file and found that nobody had ever reviewed the MRI and my son in fact did have a Chiari 1 Malformation causing a Syrinx in his spine. This should have been communicated immediately a year before and addressed surgically. Dr. Glotzbecker's negligence and the failure of Boston Children's Hospital to have proper procedures to ensure proper review and action was taken endangered my son's health and will have an unknown impact on the future outcome of his scoliosis. I can not recommend Dr. Michael Glotzbecker in any way as he was responsible and his failure is in my opinion negligent, and Boston Children's Hospital also failed because they had an "unknown open loop" in their system... AKA failure to ensure the MRI was reviewed. We went to Boston Children's Hospital because they promote themselves as the top juvenile orthopedics hospital in America. Unfortunately in my experience they are simply living off their own self promotion not providing world class care. They have also failed to take actual accountability for the issue and are treating it like an "Oops" and imply that I should be thankful it wasn't worse. Tremendously disappointing.
