Good for kids
Beautiful place to get to. Have to walk, took us 35 mins at a steady pace. Was asked if there is wheelchair access, would only advise to go in the summer if you are able to get up a hill. But so beautiful and peaceful.

Love this place. So serene on the hill. Great walk. Well worth the effort.
A lovely place to take a walk to, especially when we are blessed with such gorgeous September weather. Very poignant reminder of the sacrifices the Hindus and Sihks made in the Great War, never to return home. I recommend a trip here where on the way you now also have the surreal, almost futuristic unfettered view of the wind farm without the backdrop of Brighton. Enjoy.
Getting to the site via public transport was not too bad as you can catch the bus to about 15 minutes short of the downs and walk up. What signage we found to the entrance of the downs was very informative and interesting however, arriving in the evening we found very little in the way of signage when coming from the side entrance to the downs. It was very difficult to navigate and find our way to the location without using some sort of map (OS or Apple). This would be served better if there were more maps along the route and if the paths were more managed, they would disappear into grassland/farmland shortly after passing the gate into the downs area. There must be only one entrance to the chattri itself because we couldn't find it and had to climb a fence. Unfortunately in doing this we found discarded poppy wreaths in the shrubbery which felt not only poor management to the environment but also disrespectful to the fallen soldiers. By providing more entrances this would perhaps discourage people from discarding wreaths so close to the site and perhaps to instead either leave them or take them to their car to be carried on properly. When we arrived the wreaths were strewn about in different sections on the site itself, though it appeared this might have been deliberate but not entirely sure. The moment itself has a stunning view and is managed very efficiently, you can certainly tell when you actually get to the site there is a huge degree of care and honour given to the site by volunteers and/or institutions responsible for the management of it. We didn't find much in the way of signage explaining why the monument was there and/or who it was dedicated to, but to be honest that might not be necessary. I would like to point out that the critiques in this review only aim to serve the purpose of helping to suggest how to make the site better for remembering our fallen heroes.
The Chattri is a war memorial in the English city of Brighton and Hove. It is sited 500 feet (150 m) above the city on the South Downs above the suburb of Patcham, and is accessible only by bridleway & footpath. It stands on the site where a number of Indian soldiers who fought for the British Empire were cremated during the First World War. The structure has Grade II listed status, reflecting its architectural and historic importance. its a steep walk up to the memorial, but make a great sunday afternoon adventure or dog walk.
