To be honest, I didn't know too much about Gibraltar before my arrival. I thought the macaques live in a separate place on the top of the rock, like in zoo but when we got off the cable car, suddenly there were 2 monkeys :D then I realized the monkeys live there freely. We had to throw our food into the trash, because they felt it, they wanted to get it :D We visit in August 2020, there were not many people, covid, so we could enjoy our time up there. Was an extremely experience. Lot of macaques, they were fighting, jumping, eating, sleeping :D I loved that day. Was fun. One macaque stole our water and drank it. Despite these things the macaques were very friendly most of the time. You can be so close to them, they don't attack, untill you touch them. The view from the top is flawless. We had some clouds, but the sky was clear. We saw Africa. I will come back.

A must do when in Gibraltar. Commanding views over the surrounding area, across to Spain and further afield to Africa on a clear day. Look out for the Barbary apes who greet you at the top, they can be mischievous but are also a lot of fun! We ate in the restaurant here, Great food with stunning views.
Well worth the trip up. However signage for those walking back down and going to the various tunnels and Moors castle is very poor. Head in direction of Spain if no one to ask. Heavy on calf's walking down very steep road and steps (into town centre) so wear well worn in comfortable shoes. Takes around 4-5 hours from start to finish.
Great fun but additional price on the top for hike (5). In Madeira we had similar trails for free. Ground base service ladies very helpful and gave us discount :) Be aware of monkeys and do not bring any food with you. Keep your handbag and backpack in front of you as these cheeky creatures can open it and take your belongings.
Possibly one of the best panoramic views in the world. On a clear day Africa is clearly visible across the majestic Mediterranean sea. Recommend taking the cable car up and walking back to the town along the stairs that lead to Apes Den. Take care with the Macaques and don't have any food or possessions on show.
Great views...and you can see monkey's up close,but read rules before because some of the monkey's are very cheaky. They will try to take plastic bags and food from you. The best is to take cable car up and than walk down....but be prepared for a difficult walk. Definitely wear runners or some other shoes....with slippers or sandals will be hard to walk. If the weather is good you will enjoy very good views and nature...be aware to take cable car early in the morning,they open 9:30. Later you could spend a lot of time to wait in the queue. All overall recommended place to visit.
Great views all around. There are wild monkeys on the rock, so be careful of them as they might try to take your stuff. However, when they’re sleeping, they look cute :) . It also gets extremely hot up here during the day. There is a bar, restaurant and cafe with decent looking food. NOTE: When coming to Gibraltar you should park your car at the border parking in Spain, cross the border by foot and then free public transport is provided to the bottom station when booking tickets online.
Amazing place worth visiting. It is a small area but it's so good to see the monkeys free in nature running and climbing around you. They are very friendly and you can take beautiful pictures. I would recommend visiting on the end of start of the day. Because we arrived in the middle of the day and the waiting for the cable car in the heat was unbearable. No need to buy a ticket back, they have no time to check it anyway. Highly recommend!
