Tried to charge 1000 US dollar “deposit “ to return in a week. Only planned to be in Cabo a few days . Boldly declined!! Very misleading and abusive to foreigners. Do yourself a favor and Uber here only .
Having read all the terrible reviews before, and not wanting our vacation dampened, I very deliberately bought the extra insurance through expedia (as I almost never do) in advance. I also had Expedia call in advance and confirm that I was all set with insurance. Of course, none of that mattered as the rude sales people were determined to not do business with us. Among the top lies they told us : 1 We don't deal directly with Expedia 2 We don't honor "3rd party" insurance 3 (my favorite) Our phone doesn't make outgoing calls!!! LOL! After using my cell phone to contact the "3rd party" insurance company who verified that I had indeed purchased the correct insurance Jose Aguirra was still determined to not rent us a car. After we batted away every objective he gave, including showing him on their contract that what he was saying wasn't true, he went to the back to conspire on what they could come up with. Upon return he went through the motions of the rental and casually threw out that the deposit would be......2500!! LOL This was the final straw for us so we call Uber. All total the Uber's were cheaper than a single day of a car rental so it truly worked out well but this place is a disgrace! Also the traffic was so crazy that we were happy we didn't have to negotiate it.
Total scam. After reserving a car in advance, the location said it was mandatory to pay an additional 28 USD/ day for insurance. This raised the price by almost 500. When I called Budget's International Customer Service number, they said the insurance I was being quoted was optional. But the location absolutely refused to allow us to rent without paying the additional 28/day. They also had a really condescending and negative attitude. Terrible experience.
I made my reservation a year in advance. Rental was supposed to be 330.00 per week for an SUV. When we got to the rental counter the woman told us the actual charge would be 670.00 per week. LIke the other travelers, we were stuck. It was the week before Thanksgiving, we needed the car and we did not have internet service to look for something else. We told her to shove her car. A few minutes later, here come this guy who made an agreement that by going to visit his timeshare, The Vidante, we could get the car for our original price. What a complete freaking scam. When we got to the hotel, we were told by the hotel that this was a common practice of Budget and they have troubled travelers very often. The concierge said you can only book with Hertz or Alamo, they are the only honest car rentals in Cabo. I called Budget International Customer Service once I got home and they told me that Budget was only trying to sell me optional insurance that we didn't need to take. Whatever. We are very seasoned travelers and if this happened to us, what about naive Americans coming across the border.
Read all comments below! This place is horrible. We went to drop the cat off at 10:00 and no one was there until 10:30. Then the lady behind the counter was so rude. Couldn’t be bothered to give us the time of day even though she was the one who was late. There are a lot of hidden fees and for heavens sake, fill up the car. They charge 30us to fill but they charge you in Pesos and use an unfair conversion so they are double dipping there as well. PEASE GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.
These guys are the definition of scam artists. My rental on Expedia was 277 but with the mandatory minimum insurance my final bill was 740. They are totally ripping people off. I never take the insurance as I am covered by my Budget has got to step in and fix this. They are smearing budget's name in the mud.
This is the worst scammers ever!!! We got our car reservation from Travelocity with the hook of 40 for 7 day car use rental. We added an optional 80 colition insurance offered on the site.. When we arrived in Cabo Budget office..The attendant said you need to get the Mexican liability insurance for 611 extra or the will not give you your car rental.. THIS WAS NOT DISCLOSED In the original promotion in Travelocity.. Of course THEY already got you hostage in their office away from the airport where there are plenty of competition to choose from.. you just have to bend over and take it!!!Another family next to me is experiencing the same treatment I'm getting while I was get SCREWED!! BY THESE PEOPLE.. Never again I will use Budget for my car rental needs!!
