Cocoon is situated in the heart of downtown Cairo in the Immobilia Building. The Immobilia was built in 1940 and since then has been home to some of the greatest Egyptian artists including Abdel Halim Hafez, Farid Al-Atrash, Omar Al Sharif, Mohammed Abdel Wahab, Naguib El-Rihani and Leila Mourad. The building’s geographical, historical and creative context make it the perfect hub for cocooning culture. Cocoon aims to promote and grow the holistic, prolific and creative Egyptian community through critical thinking, interdisciplinary artistic practice, cross-cultural collaboration, community building, wellness and environmental awareness. Come to cocoon as a caterpillar and leave as a butterfly with wings coloured by you. Cocoon includes a Gallery space showcasing and selling paintings, moving image, sculptures and handmade jewellery. We also offer workshops in painting, calligraphy, collage, screenwriting, fashion, creative writing, spiritual practices, wellness and handmade crafts. We aspire to add to this list and invite participants to request and suggest workshops in holistic and creative subjects they are interested in exploring.
