My mother was transferred to Mount Royal Care Centre (Calgary, AB) from Rockview Hospital Oct. 15, 2020 (she was tested prior to her release and tested negative for COVID). The very same day her husband passed away from heart complications, but yet still moved her in to the facility. She was to be in isolation for 14 days after her arrival to Mount Royal Care, with only essential visitors allowed (myself and my brother). From day one she was placed in a room with a roommate and was allowed to mingle with the open population. Every time we called to see or talk to our mom, they had no information on us, which we provided to them on numerous occasions. They have claimed to have tested my mother and her results came back negative once again but yet she is STILL in a room with her roommate who has tested POSITIVE for the COVID virus and is unwilling to place her in an uninfected room due to space issues. The questions remain: Why wasn't she isolated the day of her arrival according to protocol? Why did Rockyview transfer her knowing this facility didn't have the room to properly isolate her? Why is she still and currently in a room with an infected person? \It's a space issue\ is not a fair and just reason to have these loved ones exposed to this virus at such a vulnerable time in their lives. There are other options, typically, for these cases, whether it be the option to remove them, or find a facility that does have space, but these option are not being given to their loved ones. I am deeply and utterly concerned for the well-being of not only my mother but other's loved ones as well.

We wish to Thank everyone for the special care they gave Jim and all of us his family. They went above and beyond to help Jim settle and took care of Jim as if he was one of their own family members. Not only was Jim treated with excellent care, we as his family were treated with the upmost respect and made us feel so welcome when ever we stopped in. Not only did they treat Jim special, they were so caring to everyone they have in their care. They take on our special family members as if they were there families. I am so very grateful to, this care home, that took in Jim and helped make his time there, as short as it was, so caring and safe for him. We the Family of James Lively, Thank you from our Hearts for the Special care everyone of you gave Jim. Judy, Terry, Lee Lively
My mom has been at Mount Royal Care Centre for 3 years now. The building is older but I love that it is close to me and I can ride my bike in the nicer weather. The food is home cooked for the most part and has good variety. The staff care is where this centre really shines. They are friendly and treat my mom like family. She has really thrived in their care. Gaining weight, still walking with her walker & she is going to be 90! They take her to exercise classes and are classes. She goes to listen to music which is offered many times a month. Thank you everyone who care for my mom-from kitchen staff to cleaning staff, including HCA's.
My dad was first placed here out of the hospital and spent less than a month there but I really liked it for a number of reasons. The staff seemed really good, very friendly. My dad had more freedom there than at his new place. The location is actually really good, lots of shops/restaurants I could easily push dad's wheelchair to (new place has nothing close!). My dad really liked the food and it smelled delicious! The building is a little older, but the new renos are nice. I was really worried reading the Google reviews before dad went there, but I was pleasantly surprised and feel the negative reviews don't reflect the staff or facility that I saw. Dad only moved to a different care facility because it was closer to home and one he was already familiar with otherwise he would have stayed at Mount Royal. Thank you for the care you gave him!
The facility is older but cozy and very clean. It's situated in a very beautiful part of the city and all the rooms are bright and well appointed. I've been told that the food is good and have seen nothing but great care from the staff. They have a lovely outside space surrounded by beautiful mature trees. Each floor has a common room where family can visit with residents of the building. Having someone in this situation is not ideal for anyone but I feel the staff are doing their best to meet the needs of the residents and their families.
