Not my first trip to Boplaas, most importantly, will definitively not be my last. Made arrangements several months in advance with Daniel Nel via social media following recent well deserved whisky awards to visit the distillery and discus his plans for the future and what we can look forward to in the coming year. Come the morning, Daniel made some time available in his busy schedule with brandy and gin bottling. A very hands on family operation which is fantastic to see, renovations on the go for tastings as well, looking forward to seeing the end result in my next visit. Saw the old original potstill from his grandfathers days, a still made in Wellington in a bygone era, the farm has a very long history in producing award winning brandies, wines, ports and sherries, of late, these include gin and whisky. Most grateful that we had the opportunity to discuss the process and hear what is in the pipeline. Very excited and looking forward to the coming releases in 2021. Back in the tasting room, the air-conditioned environment was most welcome considering the heat outside. A rather large selection of wines available, some very interesting varietals there, including the ports and sherries, including the Cape Tawny Casks which is one of Daniels favourites for imparting unique and delectable flavours to the Boplaas Whisky. Had delightful banter with the team behind the counter, impressed with the overall product knowledge across the entire range. Must confess, walked away a little poorer, but all the richer for the engagement and the bottles for the evenings to come. Highly recommend you make a plan to visit, invariably something for any occasion and/or palate.

Still my favourite estate. The port, wine, whisky, gin - where do you start ? Everything is unbelievable. And the delivery service is fantastic.
Ordered wine from them. Love love love boplaas. My new favorite wine as I am a wine fanatic. Just wish they had stock of the Red Muscadelle. Annarie handled my order and i am super impressed with her. Would recommend this winery as their wine is incredible.
Big selection of wines, potstill brandies and fortified wines
My favourite port and great time here for a tasting and a tour. Enjoyed the town and the people - certainly will be drinking Boplaas Port for life.
Another awful experience from the woman behind the counter at the tasting room. We had misjudged the timing of getting to Boplaas and after 6 hours of driving arrived at 4.40, 20 minutes prior to them closing. I had been many times with my late husband and son and now my other son from New York was so keen to visit as he's a lover of good brandy. Well she was obviously keen to get out, was patronising and rude and told me when I requested to try some of their wine that it was too late and then when I wanted to buy a special bottle of wine as a gift for a family member and asked if I could try a little was arrogantly told that because I had had a sip of their port that my pallet would not appreciate their wine! I am very cognisant of how hard a time the liquor industry have had and as a family who enjoys South African wines we really want to show support now that we can. I accept we were a little late but we were met with a very bad attitude. We out before 5, my son having bought some very expensive brandy which frankly I begrudged. I will not be revisiting.
They are missing out big time. The lady behind the counter is extremely unprofessional and off-putting. After seeing signs for best whiskey and port we were very interested in a tasting and would have bought substantial amounts of product. From photos it looks like previously there was a real tasting, but sadly when we were there the lady stuffed a list in our hands and told us to pick. We had no idea what was good. We said we were interested in the whiskey and port so she gave us a single glass with a tiny sip of whiskey we had to share. We asked of this was the award winning one and she said no. No help or information was provided. She again gave a single sip from the same glass for me and my wife. We decided to leave and were charged a ridiculous R50 for our horrible experience. We ended up buying nothing because of the lack of service and any structure to the tasting. You are doing your great products a massive disservice. Go see how James Sedgwick distillery does it. We walked out of there with thousands of bucks worth of stuff, had a GREAT experience, learned a lot, and were given big samples and our own glasses to taste from!
An amazing selection of wines, with gin and whiskey thrown in... A most stop if you're in the area
