It would be better if the bathroom situation were sorted out. The primary unisex bathroom does not have a shower but rather a shower head attached to the wall of the bathroom with a drain in the corner leading to an unusable bathroom after someone has showered there. There are also two unisex showers outside of the primary living quarters but the one shower is missing part of it's door as well. If these issues were addressed it would be a much better accommodation option.
This honestly has been the best hostel that I have ever stayed in! Sadly, my last day here I found out that they were closing their doors which is unfortunate. I loved everything about this place!
This has to be my absolute favourite backpacker's, the staff are wonderful and always happy to help you. One of the many pluses is that it's nicely situated between the Observatory Railway station and the coolest cafe's and bars..
I haven't lived here, but I visit friends who does. The buzz is very lay back. Drinks are affordable, and the staff makes you feel right at home, even if you just came to have some drinks and say hi to some friends. I'm not sure what their pricing is, and not sure how many different options are available in terms of rooms, but I know they he dorms/share rooms available
Great place to stay. Very vibrant environment. They have something fun going on literally everyday! You'll never have a dull moment at 33 South Backpackers.
Best place in Observatory...I realized that they are rated number 1 in Backpacking. They deserve it and I strongly recommend it.
When you are waiting at the gate you are greeted by a predominant sign saying that this establishment has a 4 star rating from the tourism board of South Africa BUT don't be fooled by this. Now some background for my visit. I went with a school camp with 21 learners. We were told that we would be getting 4 rooms: 2 rooms that sleep 6 and 2 rooms that sleep 8. But then we arrived and there were only 2x 6 sleepers and 1x 8 sleeper with another bed in the middle of the room making it sleep 9. The rooms were fine but there was no airflow so they got very warm over night. The staff room/lounge was right outside my room and they played videos over speakers very loud. Now to the BATHROOMS There were 3 bathrooms to share between the 30 people who were there. In bathroom 1 there is a shower WHERE ALL THE WATER DRAINS INTO THE BATHROOM Floor and there are no curtains to stop the water from going everywhere. The 2nd bathroom had a similar arrangement but the shower had panes of glass that stopped the water going everywhere. The third bathroom had 2 showers and 2 toilets. The first shower was okay it best. The 2nd shower only had a partial door and people who walked past to go to the toilets could see everything. The 1st toilet was okay but the 2nd one didn't flush or have a door. It states that you get a breakfast but in reality it is a piece of bread and a muffin.
