Was this good food 2/5. Was it mexican 1/5. Was it value 3/5. Would I recommend - NOT as a Mexican dish! I had a large burrito at the new Claremont shop. The tortilla was large but was so undercooked it was actually pasty in parts. There are usually brown spots on a tortilla from being grilled. The one I had was virginal white and cold! Not really worth eating. THE FILLINGS. First bite was rice which I never seen on a burrito. For what it is worth that I grew up in southern California .lived in San Antonio Texas. Been all over the southwest USA. I have also toured Mexico. I came to RSA in 1972 and have been cooking Mexican food here for friends and family. In the early days I imported the ingredients and made everything from scratch. - including corn tortillas from masa harina as well as flour. Back to the rice. About 50% of the rice was NOT COOKED! IT WAS COMPLETELY RAW AND CRUNCHY. I decided to open the burrito up and can say this: other was a joke. First was red cabbage. This was the predominant filling and flavour . Next was a spoonful of quacamole. Bland and runny. Then beans. Well cooked but not spicy. Then the beef. It seemed to have been cooked and pulled but the taste was bland. The problem in this whole thing was NO TRUE MEXICAN FLAVOUR. I ASKED FOR HOT and only one or two bites had a very hot piri piri flavour. the main Mexico flavors are cumin, jalapeño, garlic and corn.NEVER PIRI PURI. Other peppers, herbs and flavours get used and the heat is controlled but this had nothing but a small out of hot sauce smeared 1 or 2 places. If you want a big hunk of food then try this. If you want mexican then give Didis a big miss
