Carolina House and their staff are amazing!!!! I've had an eating disorder for close to 35 years and have been in and out of treatment centers and while I can say most, if not all centers, helped me to a certain degree...the Carolina House was by far the best. Their staff is well-trained and understanding. The biggest difference between Carolina House and all the other treatment centers I've been to is that they really helped prepare me for going home on Day One. They incorporate a gardening group and help with meal planning and preparation, which I never had at any residential program in the past. It was an area that I needed the most help in since it was something I wouldn't do at home. So being able to go out to the garden, harvest and prepare food with the garden fresh vegetables, and then sit down and have a lunch that we all prepared together was revolutionary! I was also sooooo grateful for the fact that they treated me like a person, not just a patient with an eating disorder. They made me feel so important and really went out of their way to make accommodations not only for me but for the other people there. Their program is Top Notch!!! And I would recommend them to anyone struggling with an eating disorder. No place is perfect, and I've found that when I'm stuck in my eating disordered brain, I can find something wrong with everything and everyone. I can honestly say the Carolina House was as close to perfect as residential/php programs can be.

10/10 would NOT recommend. Unsupportive staff who do not set you up for success post discharge. No transition period, quick and completely non-personal weekly sessions. Little if any care given while part of the program from the designated therapist and dietitian. Go elsewhere. No respect with dietary indiscretions. Heavy play with favoritism. No transition period while adjusting to the house (lack of tour, establishment of rules, lack of management). I wish I had chose a different facility and maybe things would be different.

This is gonna be a long one, so strap in. Over all, Carolina House residential was an excellent experience. They are HAES informed, which was really important to me as a fat person seeking treatment. The LGBT inclusivity is on point, and staff not only never misgendered trans clients, but also corrected any other clients who were misgendering as well. They are a home-like setting, which is much more comforting than a hospital/psych ward type set up. Their therapists and psychiatrists are understanding and kind, but will still push you to be your best. They are definitely more lax when it comes to bathrooms (the bathrooms are always unlocked but you are required to ask for bathroom support in the first few weeks) and meal support, which was great for me in developing independence, but could also be negative for people who are still wanting to actively use behaviors. I really felt like they were a huge help to me in recovery, which I am still maintaining. They also have a therapy cat, Hermosita, who is just the sweetest baby angel in the world and I miss her. I knocked off a star for their PHP program, which honestly takes the flexibility too far. Their PHP is generally understaffed and disorganized, and I felt like it really was unhelpful. Their apartments also had a cleanliness issue (there were roaches when I first arrived). I ended up switching to Veritas' virtual PHP which I am finding more conducive to the place I am in currently. Overall, I very much reccomend their residential program to anyone who might need it. The PHP was a little sketch to me but honestly if you need it its way better than nothing. Thank you CH, for all that you have done for me

Do not go to this place. The financial department is terrible. I have had a refund due for almost a year and they have ignored my calls, promised a check, transferred the account to another state for processing, then back to the Raleigh office, and now I cannot get a response via email or the phone numbers. Save your money and find a place with qualified professionals that treats its patients with respect.
