If you love your cats, take them here. These people are the kindest, most compassionate individuals in the area. I took my cat Lilly here for a second opinion after seeing my regular local vet for months for a "cold" that wouldn't go away. Cats on Call was the first place to correctly diagnose her sinus tumor/cancer, and they made sure I saw the right doctors and didn't spend money on tests I didn't need. Dr. Hoyt (aka Dr. Kris) even called me to check in after my first appointment with the oncologist and told me she would be there for whatever Lilly needed. She was the first and only of maybe four veterinarians I saw/spoke with during this time to ask about Lilly's level of pain and quality of life. She made absolutely sure Lilly was comfortable and that I had the medication she needed to make her last days as happy as possible. The day I put Lilly to sleep was completely unplanned. Dr. Hoyt and I had scheduled housecall appointment at the end of the month and talked through the euthanasia process, but when Lilly suddenly yowled in the middle of the night, I knew I couldn't wait another day. I called the office in tears as soon as they opened that morning, and Dr. Hoyt was at my home in 30 minutes, driving in the middle of a nasty sleet storm, skipping her own personal appointment to make sure Lilly wouldn't suffer for another minute. They say "you'll know when it's time", but the real question is whether or not you'll be able to ACT in time when you know you must...I am so incredibly grateful to these amazing people for helping me act in time. Euthanizing a pet is a miserable experience, and they made it so much less so. I'm not kidding. This was the first time I've had to go through this process, and they have cried with me, comforted me, and shown me such empathy...I won't take my surviving kitty anywhere else. Thank you, Dr. Kris, Meredith and Teri. Your kindness and understanding have meant so much.

Dr. Hoyt and the staff of Cats on Call provided incredible care to my cat and took time to educate me on his health and behavior.

We moved back to Maine in 2011 with two middle-aged cats who both developed serious problems. Two different vets could not diagnose what ailed them. We were recommended to Dr. Hoyt and she was able to diagnose Bartonella and cure them. We had acquired these two cats as strays in a rough area and I believe their difficult start in life took a toll on both of them. However, with the help of Dr. Hoyt and her dedicated staff, they lived happy, healthy lives for many years until disease caught up with them. One of them developed kidney disease at the end of her life and the other had a sudden onset of FIP. Through all of this, Dr. Hoyt and everyone at Cats on Call were so skilled and professional and so kind and patient with teaching us how to do the necessary home care. Along the way, we had a senior cat join the first two and she is now 17 and living with diabetes and pancreas issues. However, you wouldn't know it when you see her romp about because she's getting such good care. If we get any more cats in the future, we would hope to have healthier ones, but either way, we will definetly go to Cats on Call for their care.

The last time I brought my cat in the assistant told me in order to test for rabies "we need to chop your cats head off." My cat is fine and does not have rabies first off. Second off as a professional I absolutely expect compassion when talking to clients about their pets regardless of the scenario.

Smokey has always received the most compassionate care at Cats On Call (as did our Oska before him.) Dr. Kris Hoyt and her staff are truly wonderful with cats - as they should be, of course - but we feel they go above and beyond what is necessary in caring for our pets. Smokey has never been stressed out there because they stroke him, and talk to him and he knows that he is in capable and loving hands. I wish all felines could get the level of care that you offer.

Have taken excellent care of our cats for more years than I like to remember.

I would never go here again. They were ok with my kitty, but the vet was terrible to me. She assured me that all 4 of my cats would die of cancer or diabetes if I continue to feed them store bought cat food. She said no cat food companies could be trusted, and gave me recipes for making cat food and basically told me I was a bad "kitty mommy" for feeding them store bought food. I have 3 nine year old cats and 1 thirteen year old. My last cat died at the age of 24, and therefore, I think I'm an ok kitty mom. We are new to the area, and seldom use a vet, but certainly will not go there again!
