Aerobic composting is the process by which organic wastes are converted into compost or manure in presence of air. In this process, aerobic microorganisms break down organic matter and produce carbon dioxide, ammonia, water, heat and humus, the relatively stable organic end-product. The cost of building each compost pit is about Rs 3.5 lakh. The pits will first come up in key parks such as the Rose Garden in Sector 16, Shivalik Garden in Manimajra, the Leisure Valley in Sector 10, and the gardens of sectors 27 and 28. The pits will produce manure for those parks in an eco-friendly way.
