Lake has been restored and its an absolute glory. Pathways for walking along the lake bed is awesome.

Amidst the growing suburb in Chromepet Tambaram area, the Chitlapakkam lake brings the serenity and it is like a portal to a small peaceful world. In the past 50 years many attempts were made to make this lake a good outing for public. The local people have tried umpteen time to get the support from the govts to revive it. Just some temporary and minor facelift happens on the periphery of the lake but in no time it again falls back to run down status. After dark the place gets dangerous as it gets inhabitat by unsafe people. I went there this week and was finally happy to see some concerted effort (hope it is not election gimmick since we are in election year) to revive and make the lake a place for public outing. Asking locals i came to know that govt has earmarked 25 Cr to revive the lake. Machineries were being used to remove the hyacinths, tipper lorries have almost filled the periphery with lots of sand. Still lots need to be done and I hope the amount gets used properly to get good lighting since poor lighting is a major cause for dangerous activities around. I would like to thanks the general public from the local area who were fighting by filing petitions and follow ups to revive the lake. I hope we residents of this place soon get to enjoy this beautiful lake and it becomes a star lake in Chennai. Updated photos after desilting and cleaning of the lake

A wonderful place to spend the evenings with our near and dear ones. Concrete seats are constructed at a regular interval. The pathways are there for us to walk. Different kind of seasonal birds will also come here. We can find lot of school students and family members coming there with their kids to spend their time. Some of the lamps are defective. The lamps were working properly in the beginning. But now they are not turning on the lights on time. That has to be taken care. Some of the concrete bricks laid came out. So Without light is difficult to walk out. There are no high fence so children has to be watched very carefully. Even though there are thinks to be takencare of, personally i like watching the lake in evening which is one of the best relaxation. I would much appreciate if they introduce boat ride.

Such a lovely place to spend your time. With pavements around the lake, shady trees and stone benches to rest this place gives you the pleasure of enjoying nature at free of cost. This is a natural lake and the water is cleaned at regular intervals.

A true inspiration of how community participation can bring about sustainable changes! It's been 5 years now since the initiative started back in February 2016. The sustained effort by a group of volunteers every weekend has brought a GREEN change in the environment. The endangered trees heritage trees which have been brought back to its original place deserves lot of appreciation!!
