Om Sri Skandasramam, located at Selaiyur,, Tamil Nadu 30 kms from Chennai. Built by Sathguru Srimath Santhananda Swamigal who hails from the Avadhoota tradition of Saints, this ashram pays a living tribute to the glory of Hinduism. Enshrined in this ashram are the icons of rare deities including that of Lord Kamala Siddhi Vinayakar, Lord Panchamukha Heramba Ganapathy, Lord Dattatreya, Lord Panchamukha Hanuman, Lord Sanieswara, Lord Ayyapan, Goddess Ashtadasabhuja Durga Parameswari, Srimath Sathguru Santhananda Swamigal,Lord Sarabeswara (form of Shiva), Goddess Prathiyankira,Goddess Bhuvaneshwari, Lord Swaminathaswamy (Skanda), Lord Sudarshanachakathalwar, Lord Lakshmi Narasimhar, Lord Maha Sahasralingamurthy (1008 lingams), Lord Nandikeswarar, Goddess Annapurani and Sri Chakra Poorna Maha Meru all in a magnificent stature. Chennai Om Sri Skandhashramam temple was consecrated by Saint Swami Santhananda on 24 June 1999. Before building the temple at Chennai, Shanthananda Swamigal also built the Judge Swamigal Adhishtanam at Pudukkottai, Om Sri Skandasramam at Salem and Dattagiri at Sendamangalam. The temple is dedicated to goddess Ugraprathyangira Devi and god Sarabheswara. This is said to be the first temple in India to have been dedicated to goddess Ugraprathyangira Devi. It is also said to be the first temple of god Sarabheswara constructed in modern times. There is an old Chola temple dedicated to Lord Sarabheswara at Thribhuvanam near Thanjavur, also in Tamil Nadu. Swami Santhananda died before the completion of the temple. There are life-size idols of various gods and goddesses in the temple, some of them larger-than-life sized. The most imposing of all is the Sahasralingam, a huge stone lingam (form of God Shiva) measuring 9.5 feet in height and weighing 20 tons, which has 1007 lingams carved within, with a Nandhi (the bull) measuring 5 feet long and 4 feet high facing the lingam. Daily Annadanam is provided to all the devotees. Must have darshan.

One of the most wonderful depictions of Hindu culture and deities in Chennai. The ashram boasts some of the most resplendent deities such as panchamukha aanjaneyar, shaneeshwarar, dattathreyar and panchamukha vinayagar with one of the most amazing sahassralingam. Apart from these they have prathyankira Devi, raja rajeshwari and maha meru.

You have to be careful with the turns that you take to reach there because it is deep inside. Towards your left from the entrance, there will be some shelves to store your shoes for 1 rupee. There are no camera's allowed inside and also, your phone should be either switched off or in silent mode. Word to the wise - Be careful with your outfit choice because this is a temple located in a village. You will get a stare or two of you are an outsider. There is no map or guide to direct you to which deity you shook uld isit first. So, start from a corner. Otherwise, amidst the numerous deities and their respective temples along with countless sections being under construction, you might get confused. The place is not as well maintained, with walls having moss on them, as compared to the other renowned temples that Chennai houses but the installations, the sculptures and the artworks are twice bigger than them and also has a homely vibe to it. Hope you find your visit to be enlightening!
