Asia's largest repository of Historical and government documents. Many doesn't know about the existence of this wonder. If you want any documents from the repository it's just easy as that just file a RTI in the office and you can get it procured in a span of 20 days. Everyone in the repository is friendly and helpful. There is ample parking lot for both Two wheeler and four wheeler. One of the few places with the long standing trees and with the historical architecture.

A simple yet good place. The staff is very good at explaining. In a state where corruption is rampant this office is exceptional. I even offered a tip to the gate security and he refused to take. I am very proud of this office.

The Archives are a place where one can truly delve into the history and the past (if one knows their way to work around the system of archiving). Passes are awarded only to research scholars who are affiliated to institutes, though I believe they do make some concessions for special cases. Visitor parking for two wheelers is available. I am not sure about cars.

Not may know that this place exists. They have records about Chennai and rest of TN concerning lands, people's, practices, photos, culture, cuisine , topography, agriculture, governance and what not!!! Very helpful for research scholars who want to know more about Tamil Nadu. Ideal for Ph.D students in related fields. It's NOT a library where you can have free access. You NEED to obtain permission from the director there to access any record . Very very friendly staff who want to help. Ask them and they will guide you.

Sadly the annual lecture delivered by an expert wasn't even archived... Even more sad was the poor maintenance of it's projector used by the speaker for a presentation. Well that kinda explains the poor administration of the once famous Madras Archives. Guess ever since the name change and Tamilising Madras quality has deteriorated. Wish GoTN realizes the importance of this organization grants enough funds for it's immediate modernisation.
