Friendly staff, clean store, competitive prices. The only shortcoming is that sale items are frequently unavailable. As we travel from Gold River, it is a costly venture to visit the store once...then twice...only to discover the items we desire are not available. Dairy items such as blend/coffee cream; juices; frozen foods...these tend to be consistently unavailable when on sale. If we have to make 2 or 3 trips for sale items the products have, in fact, cost us far more than the current non-sale prices. Unfortunately, Spidel's loses most of our business because, if we go to Walmart (even though it is farther away), we can get everything in one trip and we have never missed out on taking advantage of sales due to unavailability of sale merchandise...which means we do actually save money...an important consideration for seniors and others who are financially challenged.

Shopping here makes me angry. First: claiming to be an independent grocer is a lie, and I I'm done with tolerating disinformation. Second: almost all of the food they sell has added sugar. No wonder Nova scotians are all fat—organisations like this pretty much force it on us. Third: they advertise products that they don't have and can't get. Fourth: I realize it's a small store but their selection is abysmal. They don't sell cream (everything they call cream has about six unpleasant added ingredients), extremely limited selection of cheese, no good chocolate, no müesli, basically no high-quality, healthy, or fewer-corners-cut foods. I believe all of their meat is factory-farmed, and packaged in polystyrene, which is not only environmentally disastrous but also toxic and probably carcinogenic. If you want to eat healthy you pretty much have to shop in Halifax.

What to say about a grocery store? Very well organized, fruits and vegetables look fresh and I love that I usually find something with \best for tonight\ stickers on it
