Since its establishment in 1981 by brothers Theo, Alex and Marcel the family-owned Giesen Wine Group has become a New Zealand wine industry powerhouse. In just over 35 years it has become one of New Zealand’s top 10 producers by volume with distribution in 33 countries.   Giesen owns 13 vineyards throughout Marlborough and has longstanding relationships with 70 of the region’s most respected grape growers. This allows the company to retain its reputation for quality Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, which today it creates in nine varying styles. Investment has allowed development of super premium wines including; The August 1888, and the Single Vineyard Selection with the much-awarded Fuder wines.   In early 2016, Nikolai St George joined Giesen Wine Group taking responsibility for group winemaking. Before joining Giesen Wine Group, Nikolai won three consecutive ‘Winemaker of the Year’ titles in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Nikolai has once again received the title ‘Winemaker of the year’ 2019 at the Royal Easter Show.   In 2016 Giesen Group acquired the highly regarded Ara Wines brand, a specialist label of single vineyard Marlborough wines from Wairau Valley. The latest innovation for Giesen Wine Group is beer, brewed in Christchurch and released through Kaiser Brothers Brewery.
