The church staff at St Augustine's Cashmere are not trained to deal with all difficult social type situations. Our son got into some serious trouble at home and our family looked to St Augustines to take him for a short break. The church took our 16 yr old son under their roof in 2013 and he has never returned home .. I have asked the head of the Anglican church to let me know if my son is ok, we have missed two of our son's birthdays and two christmases but still no-one will tell us how he is. I have tried all the staff at St Augustine's and some church members. Although I made many attempts to communicate with the family who had my son they never returned my calls and have written me one letter in two years. I know if the minister had his child living just around the corner he would expect someone to tell him how his son was. The church told me they 'don't have time for this' (me). If you have a serious problem in your family don't automatically assume that because it's a church it will show the empathy or skill needed for your situation. Church staff are trained to preach, I don't know if they receive any training in listening.
